Migraines disrupt the social and working lives of millions of Americans. The financial losses attributable to migraines fall on both patients and their employers. By IBI’s estimation, migraine costs U.S. businesses nearly $12B per year. Per employee per year, migraine adds $61 medical and pharmacy treatments and $23 in lost work time.
The good news is that effective migraine management can preserve and restore patients’ abilities to participate fully on the job. As a member of The Society for Women’s Health Research’s (SWHR) Migraine Network, IBI helped create the Migraine Patient Toolkit. It’s full of practical guidance for both women and men on talking to providers and insurers about migraine care, as well as the latest information on lifestyle and medical interventions to prevent and treat migraines.
