Here we describe the types of H&P management programs employers have in place. All but 5% of the 500 respondents include at least one of the four major program types we surveyed. When we asked about program goals, we were surprised that “reduce absence” closely followed the #1 goal, “lower medical costs,” and ranked above improving health, productivity or employee satisfaction. Goals appear to be broadening across programs. When IBI looked only at goals for disability management, we found that 60% of employers with such programs in place expect them to lower medical costs.
